This Web site represented a very satisfying learning experience for us, which speaks to perhaps the most important part of what we do. Every project with which we become involved gives us the opportunity to get a glimpse into our client’s world, an experience which often broadens our horizons. Working with the beautiful people of Messianic Bureau International was just such an honor.
The spiritual landscape of the Messianic Movement contains elements which are recognizable from both Jewish and Evangelical perspectives. The challenge in designing this site was to create a visual theme which embraced the Messianic acceptance of Yeshua as the Messiah, but without using overt images of Jesus or the cross, which would alienate more traditional Jews. To solve this, we turned to a passage in the Bible in which Jesus (Yeshua) is referred to as “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.” From a stock photo library, we took two photos. One of a lion, and another of the Israeli flag. We brought both images into Photoshop, and using the Liquify filter and layer blending modes, we manipulated the flag to create the illusion that the Star of David was flowing along the contour of the lion’s face and muzzle. the fire and water were taken from our house library. The fire comes from a charcoal grill at dusk, and the water from the pool in a neighborhood park. Both were manipulated in Photoshop to enhance the colors and create a warmer look.
