Each of us has two selves. The first, the self which we permit others to know, is comprised of facets we choose to reveal, and in the case of those with whom we have developed deep relationships, facets they discern on their own. The second self is that which is known fully only to ourselves. On first thought, one might intuit that the first self is only a filtered version of the second, but I perceive the reality of this arrangement as being far more complex. Los Lugares Escondidos, (Spanish for "The Hidden Places") is the result of my exploration of this idea. Floating on the surface of the image are artifacts representing the first self, while buried deep in the background, maybe even overlooked at first, is the face which is the metaphorical second self.
