Nostalgic Purgatory
Digital Collage, 13" x 19"
One of my neighbors had this wind chime hanging outside her front door, and I found myself simply fascinated with it. It was rusty and weathered, which lent it a very evocative, nostalgic character that I fell in love with. I took several pictures of it, intending to use it at some point in my art, but since I had no ready plan, the photos languished in my personal archive for some time.
Then one day it struck me that nostalgia is a two-sided coin. On one side, there are the pleasant memories to which we all long to return from time to time. On the other side, those who are not careful can find themselves trapped by their own longing, missing out on all of what today wants to give them because they are so busy romancing the past.
